Assault in town centre

A 24-year-old man from Worksop has admitted to assaulting a young woman in the town.

Darren Hancock, from Rossetti Gardens, was accused of stamping on the young woman’s head around 5.30am on 1st July on Eastgate.

He denied any recollection of this but accepted he had caused scratches to her neck after pulling on the straps of her handbag. Andrew Osborne, defending, said police officers couldn’t see any evidence of injury caused by being stamped on.

“He had no recollection of events but he was shocked and appalled by what he did see (on CCTV).” he said.

Magistrates adjourned the case until the 20th September for a probation report to be completed.
