Anston pupils bike to school for breakfast

CHILDREN and parents at a primary school in Anston biked to school for their breakfast last week.

Those who arrived by bike at Anston Greenlands Junior and Infant School, were given a healthy breakfast, entry into a prize draw and their bikes received a free health check and service from Dr Bike.

The event was organised by Sustrans, which is working with Rotherham schools to provide children with the skills and information neccessary to allow them to take to two wheels for the journey to school on a regular basis.

Natalie Whelan, from Sustrans, said: “Walking and cycling to school is a great way for our children to get the exercise they need everyday to keep healthy, and research shows it allows them to become better students in the classroom.”

“And let’s not forget its fun, too.”

Headteacher of Anston Greenlands, Anne Jones, said: “It’s great to see so many children getting active on the journey to school.”

“By cycling to school, children are not only keeping fit and healthy but also helping the environment – something our school is very passionate about.

“It’s great to be working with Sustrans, and great to be a ‘Bike It’ School.”
