Laughton WI’s annual meeting began on a sad note when joint president Joy Bannister invited members to stand and observe a minute’s silence in memory of fellow member Pat Remmington of Morton who had died the previous weekend. Secretary Lesley Bird read a card from Joy thanking everyone for their kind messages of love and support during and following her recent unexpected stay in hospital.

Members were reminded of the forthcoming Cliffside Group meeting at Blyton on Monday 7th April when Linda Hewitt will give advice on Revamping your Wardrobe. The competition for a corsage – to be worn – is open to all. Tickets are £3.50 and available on the door. The April walk and lunch will also be held on Monday 7th April, meeting on the Green at 11am. Following the normal WI business, Lesley Bird delivered the institute’s annual report outlining activities during the past year. There were no new nominations for officers and committee so the existing joint presidents and committee members were re-elected en bloc. Ann Purdy, on behalf of the members, thanked the committee for all they do to keep the institute running smoothly. Kath Hyde was the winner of the Competition Cup with Lesley Bird and Sue Robinson joint runners-up. The March Lucky Draw was won by Lesley Bird, Janet Douce and Margaret Jackson, and Lesley was also the winner of the Lottery.

Next month the speaker will be Celia Lord, a Guide at Lincoln Cathedral, the competition will be the number of words, four letters or more, which can be made from Lincoln Cathedral and hostesses will be Gillian Bhattacharya, Janet Douce and Ann Purdy. A buffet supper, provided by the committee, rounded off another enjoyable year for Laughton WI.
