A CHARITABLE local woman has spearheaded a new initiative to bring Christmas cheer to those less privileged.

Danielle Simons from Charlotte Court, Gainsborough, is the mastermind behind Care 2 Share - a new campaign to provide hampers of food and gifts for local individuals and families who would otherwise go without.

“A couple of years ago I split up with my partner and I which left my daughter and I in quite a difficult position,” said Danielle.

“Surestart and Homestart in Gainsborough really helped us out so much so I just felt like it was my time to give something back.”

Back in September, Danielle started her campaign to raise donations of non-perishable food goods to create hampers for people in need this Christmas - but things soon built to a level much better than she could have hoped for.

“It began very small, with the intention of collecting enough good for maybe five hampers, but the public response has been amazing and overwhelming,” she said.

“People and businesses have just been so generous. There’s now currently enough food goods, toys, gifts and toiletries to accommodate over 40 hampers - and we’re still collecting!”

Care 2 Share are still in desperate need of donations of any kind, and will be handing out the hampers to those in need throughout this week and right up to Christmas.

“These hampers are for anyone in need,” said Danielle.

She continued: “We aren’t governed by criteria of any sort. We’re well aware that there are a lot of people and families in genuine need of food, toys and treats this Christmas and that is what this is all about.”

But charity isn’t just for Christmas with Danielle and Care 2 Share - she says there’s a long future ahead of them yet.

“It has gone so well, that we want to make Care 2 Share an all-year-round operation, and after Christmas we’ll be applying for charity status,” said Danielle.

She added: “After all of the success, I just want to say a huge thank you to Gainsborough Lions for the shelves, the young Prince’s Trust volunteers for being so brilliant in spreading the word and all of my friends and family for their backing and support.”
