Great night of 60s music
King Mojo : Joel White & The Esquire
Review: Joel White and The Esquire at the Trinity Centre, 11/02/12
ANOTHER great night of musical entertainment at the Trinity Centre.
This time it was back to the Sixties - but, refreshingly, the band took us on a tour of the R ‘n’ B sounds of that marvellous musical decade.
Georgie Fame is obviously one of keyboard player Joel White’s heroes and we were treated to several of Fame’s songs including Yea Yea, In The Meantime, Sunny and Sitting In The Park.
White sounded and played like the 60s icon and one could see why he has played and toured with the likes of Richard Hawley and Jarvis Cocker.
Other stand-out numbers included the Spencer Davis Group’s I’m A Man (Stevie Winwood being another inspiration for White), The Zombies’ She’s Not There, Indian Rope Man by Julie Driscoll and The Brian Auger Trinity as well as two or three Ray Charles songs, including Unchain My Heart.
Singer Emma Rossi also chipped in from time to time with fine renditions of songs by Dusty Springfield and Lulu.
Fine entertainment from a group of outstanding musicians.
