A GP surgery in Worksop has re-opened after the private company that operates it went into administration this week.

Westwood surgery, based in Manton, has been saved from closure after being taken over by Larwood and Village surgeries from Danum Medical Service Limited.

Due to issues with the surgery’s lease, Westwood was temporarily closed yesterday (Monday, March 14) but re-opened today.

Staff had just a day’s notice to ‘provide a last minute solution’ and offer Larwood surgery as a temporary location for Monday’s appointments.

A spokesman for Larwood and Village Surgeries said: “Larwood & Village Surgeries pulled out all the stops to provide a last minute solution to the problems caused when Danum Medical Service Limited, the company running Westwood, announced they were experiencing financial difficulties.

“Having agreed to take over the running of Westwood Surgery Larwood was informed by NHS Property Services on Saturday that Westwood site would not be available yesterday due to a legal issue with the lease.

“With amazing resilience the staff from Larwood and Westwood worked together to advise patients that we would not need to cancel their appointments but could offer them an alternative location at Larwood Surgery for that day.

“The issues with the lease was rectified later Monday afternoon, and the Westwood Surgery was re-opened today.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and patients of Westwood Surgery for their patience and understanding during this time.”

Though the surgery has re-opened, its opening hours have now changed with the surgery no longer offering weekend appointments.

A spokesperson from NHS England said: “We are aware of the financial difficulties experienced by Danum Medical Services Ltd (DMSL) and we can confirm that the contract it held to provide GP services at the Westwood Practice in Bassetlaw has been terminated.

“NHS England in Yorkshire and the Humber has worked with DMSL and the Westwood Practice to ensure new GP service providers are in place which means patients can continue to have access to high quality GP services.”
