At the meeting on 24th February at the usual venue of Morton Village Hall the theme was Gainsborough Friends of Scunthorpe Samaritans, a talk given by Christine Baker, supported by Maureen Whitehead. With the help of projected information and video clips, Christine introduced various aspects of the Samaritans organisation. Members heard about how things started with the work of Chad Varah in 1953, and how the charity has grown, about its structure and above all its purpose.
Samaritans are available 24 hours per day, are a lay organisation and are still very much needed in our day. Christine also introduced members to the local branch in Scunthorpe where both she and Maureen volunteer.
