A local fashion boutique has helped to raise vital research funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR) in its long-running campaign.

Robinsons of Bawtry held its 20th annual fashion show in October last year and raised an impressive £14,713.

The annual event held for more than two decades has raised £250,000 for YCR.

The money raised has helped to fund vital research at the University of Sheffield, which Russell Jones, the proprietor of Robinsons recently witnessed first hand.

“We are thrilled to have raised such a significant amount of money for such a worthwhile cause and were delighted to have had the opportunity to meet Professor Andrews and his team at the University of Sheffield and have a tour of the lab,” said Mr Jones.

“It was enlightening to receive such an insight into the work they, and our sponsored PhD student James Hackland, are doing. To know that our monies are allowing James to take place in a vital, three year research programme is very satisfying and we thank everyone who attended the fundraising evening.”

James’ work over the last year has focused on research into the cell type origin of Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). There is some controversy over the tissue in which this cancer originates and it is essential to know where it comes from.

James said: “

“I am immensely grateful for the financial support that Robinsons and YCR have provided me with.”

“It has allowed me to carry out an exciting and productive first year of research that will be the foundation of my PhD. It is my hope that the work I have done, and will continue to do for the next two to three years, will have a positive impact on the understanding and treatment of RMS.”
