Exhibition at Old Hall

Gainsborough news

ART-LOVERS are invited to attend a new exhibition at Gainsborough Old Hall where you can see prints and paintings on loan from the Usher Gallery.

Lincoln County Council says the exhibition is ‘a rare opportunity’ to see around 20 paintings and prints by artists including the internationally famous LS Lowry, Grimsby artist Colin Carr, Kenneth Leech and Hal Hurst, a founding member of the Royal Miniature Society.

Jonathan Platt, head of libraries and heritage, said: “When the Usher Gallery acquired the paintings many of the artists were considered to be ‘up and coming’.”

“Since then many of them have achieved recognition and success in their field.”

“In some cases the artist is still working and exhibiting, but many of the prints are by artists of the late 19th and early 20th Century.”

The Room With A View Exhibition will be running from 2nd February to 31st May.

Entry fees are £6 for adults, £4 concessions and £16 for family tickets.

There is free admission for English Heritage Members.

Late last year, Gainsborough Old Hall announced that it will soon be made available for the ‘exclusive use’ of wedding parties during civil wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions, with dates available in 2013 – 2014 on the first Friday and last two Saturdays of the month from May to September.
