A LOVING and dedicated nursery school teacher from Gainsborough has been awarded our Teacher’s Rose.
Samantha Shaw from Gainsborough Early Years Children’s Centre was nominated for her relentless enthusiasm and her warm and embracing approach to teaching.
The 23-year-old was nominated by Lucy Steele, whose son Taylor was diagnosed with epilepsy in January last year. We took Sam by surprise to present her with her well-deserved Teacher’s Rose.
“I’m just so shocked,” she said.
“I had no idea. I just love working with the children, and the staff are brilliant too. It’s so nice to work here because it feels just like a little family.”
She coninuted: “I’d like to say a huge thank you very much to Lucy for nominating me. It’s so nice that she appreciates everything we’ve done for Taylor.”
She added: “Taylor is just absolutely lovely and always just puts a smile on your face because he’s such a funny little boy. He always comes up and gives me a cuddle because he’s very affectionate.”
Lucy was only too happy to nominate Sam for a Rose, and said that the work she had done had really made a wonderful difference to Taylor’s life.
“After he was diagnosed, she was always just really good with keeping in touch via telepone and making sure that he was OK,” said Lucy.
“She’s just so wonderful with him, and he absolutely loves her. They dote on each other.”
Lucy continued: “She really helps Taylor when he needs it, especially when he first started here and we had so many tears and cuddles.”
“Sam has been ever so good him since he was diagnosed and I don’t know what we’d do without her.”
“She’s always so welcoming and friendly to all of the kids and parents and she’s always got time for you, no matter what. She really deserves some recognition, and this is the first time I have ever seen her speechless!”
Children’s Centre manager Jodie Owen also agreed that Sam was a delight to be around and worked very well with her little ones. “She’s so fun to work with and she’s so dedicated to her job,” said Jodie.
“She always goes over her hours. Sam is a really good team member and she gets so attached to the children, it really is like a big family and she is an important part of it.”
