Success is being celebrated by a duo from Parish Church Primary School who are jumping for joy after making it through to a national biathlon final in London.

Pupil Lydia Smith and teacher John Anderson have both qualified for the British Schools Biathlon Finals to be held at Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium at the end of March.

They will be up against the best swimmers and runners from schools all over the country.

After making the grade to reach the Midlands Finals in Macclesfield five members of the Parish school had an anxious wait as their event was called off due to the weather , but their previous times were then compared against the North and South’s semi-finals times.

Lydia was overjoyed and can’t wait to go to London.

“ It’s a long way to go, but I’m determined to do my best at both the 50m swim and the 500m run,” she said.

“It’s a really famous stadium and I want to see how fast I can go on their track.” Mr Anderson said: “Being at the British Final is going to be very daunting, but it will be an amazing experience just to be there.”

He added: “I’ll be there cheering extremely loudly for Lydia on behalf of all the school and I’m sure she’ll do the same for me.”
