Youngsters at Eastoft Primary School were thrilled to learn all about horses from an equine expert who called in to see them, Guy Robertson.

Using Natural Horsemanship methods, Guy Robertson handles all kinds of horses and ponies, teaching them confidence and respect. He believes these two attributes are of prime importance for both horses and their riders and handlers.

Guy gave a talk to year two pupils at Eastoft Primary School about his passion for his career choice, and how he spends his time within a hectic schedule.

His arrival, complete with western hat and saddle, caused a great deal of excitement.

“I really enjoyed visiting the school children, they were a great bunch and managed to concentrate and listen throughout the talk,” said Guy. after his classroom session.

Explaining what a typical day was like for him and talking to pupils about all the horses on his yard, Guy explained how motivation is important when running your own business.

The children then studied and handled all the saddlery Guy uses on his horses – which again proved fascinating for them.

A school spokeswoman said: “All the children loved the experience and there was some exciting discussion afterwards.”

Guy Robertson Horsemanship specialises in the starting or breaking of young horses, and the retraining of horses with behavioural problems.

Guy’s relationship with horses began at the age of six, with his first pony called Topic.

He joined the pony club and tried all kinds of eventing until 1996 when he was introduced to the sport of Polocrosse.

In this sport, Guy represented the UK between 2002 and 2011, with the last three years spent as Captain, in test matches against Zimbabwe, South Africa, USA, New Zealand, Australia and Holland.

He now works with horses full-time in Rawcliffe Bridge, running Horsemanship Clinics and giving demonstrations all over Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.
