A TIRELESS and dedicated teacher from North County Primary School has received The Gainsborough Standard’s Teacher’s Rose.

Mr John Anderson has been teaching at the Gainsborough school for over 15 years, and is renowned for his relentless work ethic and approachable manner.

The Standard attended a school assembly to take Mr Anderson by surprise and present him with his rose to a rapturous applause from pupils and parents.

“It feels absolutely fantastic,” said Mr Anderson as he accepted his award.

He said that being able to teach such wonderful children for so many years was a reward in itself.

“The way the children make you feel makes teaching so worthwhile. There’s always something going on.”

He continued: “I have a very energetic and emotional relationship with my pupils.”

“We’re always discovering new ideas and new ways of learning and coming across problems which we’re always working together to find new ways to solve.”

Not only is Mr Anderson a Year 6 teacher, but he’s also the school’s subject leader for PE and numeracy and is very involved as a school governor and the organiser of school trips.

For nearly 18 years Mr Anderson has been an active member of the local community and a schooling hero.

“I see a lot of pupils that I used to teach growing up,” he said.

“I walk to work and quite often I’ll see children walking to QEHS or TVA and it’s always nice to see them getting on and to wave hello.”

“I’d just like to say a big thank you to whoever nominated me. It’s a real privilege to be recognised by them,” he said.

Mr Anderson continued: “This is a great honour, and it’s wonderful to know that you’ve affected children’s lives so positively, and to know that you’ve made them as happy as they’ve made me by nominating me.”

He added: “It’s always nice to feel appreciated!”

North County headteacher Mrs Julie James added: “He is a dedicated, loyal and children-centred teacher.”

“Nothing is too much trouble for him and he is has a very calm manner with the children. He’s very patient with them.”
