A dynamic team of health professionals who treat and care for patients following a stroke have scooped Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals’ monthly staff Star Award for March 2016.

The team, who work on Ward 16 Stroke Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, outshone other worthy contenders for the Trust’s coveted Star Team Award and were recognised for consistently delivering excellence in every aspect of care for their patients.

Stroke can be a life-changing condition for patients and may have a significant impact on their friends and family. Providing high quality care that supports patients to regain as much of their independence as possible involves a range of skills from many different health professionals.

Ward manager Shirley Fearn, who nominated the team, said: “I am very proud to be part of such a dynamic and hard-working team. Being one of the best performing stroke units in the region would not have been possible without the sheer determination and commitment from every single member of staff. They rightly deserve this recognition.”

The trust’s director of nursing, midwifery and quality, Richard Parker, presented the team with their award during a ‘surprise’ announcement.

Richard said: “I’m so pleased that we are recognising the hard work and determination of the team on the Stroke Unit. The commitment and dedication shown each day is a perfect example of how different specialities come together to give our patients the best possible care. I’m proud to work with such a fantastic team.”

Ward 16 stroke unit was chosen as the trust’s ‘Star Team of the Month’ by a panel of staff and managers and received an award certificate and box of goodies.

DBH Stars is the trust’s Staff Awards & Recognition Scheme which celebrates staff and teams who deliver exceptionable care. The awards are open to any member of staff employed by the Trust, or any patient who has visited one of our sites, to nominate somebody who they think deserves recognition.
