DAVE Dobbie has been elected onto Gainsborough Town Council to represent the North West ward of the town.

Coun Dobbie, a Liberal Democrat, took 56 per cent of the votes in Thursday’s by-election, which saw 472 people at the ballot box.

He was standing against UK Independence Party candidate John Beaver who lost out by 64 votes, with 46 per cent.

Officials said two ballot papers were voided because they were spoiled.

Voting turnout was just 12 per cent of the total number of people registered to vote.
