Daniel Markham, 34, was originally given a community order in December, last year, for three offences of stealing from Matalan.

But at Worksop Magistrates’ Court last week, Markham admitted to breaching the order on two occasions.

The court heard he has thyroid cancer and that a suspended sentence would allow him to continue his treatment.

Magistrates revoked the order and re-sentenced for the shoplifting.

Markham, of Watson Road, Worksop, was given a 12 week prison sentence which was suspended for a year.
