THE owner of a Worksop town centre restaurant is being prosecuted for allegedly flouting hygiene regulations.
Mohammed Abdul Kashem is facing 15 charges relating to the contravening of several food hygiene regulations at Monsoon, on Ryton Street.
The charges have been brought about by Bassetlaw Council’s environmental health department.
Kashem, the owner of the Indian restaurant, was due to appear at Worksop Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon but failed to turn up.
It is alleged that cooked spinach was ‘exposed for sale’ which had white flecks of mould on it and food likely to support the growth of food poisoning bacteria or toxins was being stored above 8c.
It is also alleged that Kashem contravened several regulations relating to food hygiene.
These include one that requires that food is to be protected against risk of contamination likely to render the food unfit for human consumption or which could damage health, while another requires food premises to be kept clean and maintained in good repair and condition.
It is also alleged that there were no hand drying facilities for use at the washbasin in the kitchen and that the sink waste overflow was not connected to the sink.
All of the charges above relate to on or before the 17th November 2011.
Kashem also faces three charges of failing to comply with Hygiene Improvement Notices.
The case is due back at Worksop Magistrates’ Court again on 18th January.
