Man fined for police assault

A MISTERTON man who tried to stop an altercation involving his girlfriend has landed himself with a £250 fine.

Adam Barnes, 26, admitted assault in Market Place, Retford at Worksop Magistrates Court.

The court heard that as a police officer tried to arrest Barnes’ girlfriend he knocked the officer’s arm. He then raised his arm and the officer thought he was going to be struck so he used a restraint technique on him,” said prosecutor Catherine Picardo. “.

Barnes, of Deans Close, Misterton, admitted assaulting a police officer.

Defence solicitor David Grant said: “His girlfriend becomes involved in an altercation and being sensible he is trying to get her away from the scene and into a taxi.”
