Maltby: Man charged with racially harassing leader and deputy leader at Rotherham Council

A man has appeared in court today (Friday) charged with the racial harassment of Rotherham Council’s leader and deputy leader.

James Plant of Birks Holt Drive, Maltby appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court earlier where his case was adjourned.

The 54-year-old is charged with racially aggravated harassment with fear of violence and another charge of racially aggravated harassment without fear of violence.

The charges relate to incidents between November 2012 and January 2013 against Rotherham Council leader Coun Roger Stone and between November and December 2012 against Coun Jahangir Akhtar, the council’s deputy leader.

Plant is set to next appear in court on 19th July.
