THE RSPCA is urging people to think before they act after the number of calls to the charity about abandoned animals rose last year for the fifth year running.

The charity took 28,162 abandonment calls, compared to 27,755 in 2010 and just 21,481 in 2007. It is also seeing more abandonments in the summer rather than around Christmas.
