Creswell: Man admits growing cannabis but says it was just for him to help ease pain

A man has pleaded guilty to growing cannabis but said it was for his own use only and he had no intention of selling it.

A man has pleaded guilty to growing cannabis but said it was for his own use only and he had no intention of selling it.

Damian Ballantyne, of Hazelby Road, Cresswell, grew the cannabis plants at an industrial unit in Shireoaks.

At Worksop Magistrates’ Court prosector Mrs Donna Fawcett said the estimated value of the crop was between £1,200 and £4,800.

Defending, Mr David Verity said Ballantyne used the drug to combat the physical pain he was suffering at the time after a serious car crash.

He was also suffering depression from loss of work and the death of his mother.

Ballantyne was give a three-month curfew and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
