COMMUNITY: Bikeability course

Bikeability is offering free courses this summer for 11 to 16-year-olds to learn vital skills helping them to keep safe while cycling on the road.

Bikeability level three equips youngsters with the skills to deal with all types of road conditions and more challenging traffic situations.

These include dealing with hazards, assessing risks while on the move, planning safer routes for cycling, and being aware of driver blind spots.

Phil Watt, Bikeability and cycling officer says, “The summer holidays are a great time to get out exploring on your bike, but it’s important to have the skills to be confident on the road. These courses are an ideal opportunity for youngsters to learn vital skills to help them deal with any hazards they might encounter while out cycling. ”

Courses will be run in small groups, taught by qualified Bikeability instructors who are also DBS checked.

Anyone wishing to take part should already have completed Bikeability level two training. They will need a roadworthy bicycle and suitable cycle helmet. They will need a parent/carer to accompany them at the beginning and end of each session.

The course last three hours and involves training on public roads. Session times will be 9am to noon or 1pm to 4pm.

The next course is: August 17 at West Lindsey Leisure Centre, The Avenue, Gainsborough DN21 1EP.
