TOWN CENTRE - MORE CHANGES IN PIPELINE
HARD on the heels of the Heaton Street health clinic and the £3 million Co-op development, more plans are afoot to change the look of Gainsborough town centre.
Market Street and Lord Street could be pedestrianised by 1993 under a partnership scheme between West Lindsey District Council and the County Council costing an estimated £350,000. At this stage it looks as if initial work on the Market Place could begin next year.
West Lindsey’s estates officer, Gavin Jones told the News that the Co-op was very keen to have the pedestrianisation done as soon as possible. Current estimates from the District Council put the cost to them at over £250,000.
