It is part of an initiative to remind people to make sure their doors and windows are not left open and unlocked during the warmer summer period.

Smash ‘n’ Carry Harry, a PC or PCSO from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams, will be visiting properties and looking for windows that have been left open, valuables left on show, in both the house and garden, and also sheds which are insecure.

A uniformed officer will accompany Harry and offer those residents a home security visit, and advice around crime prevention.

PCSO Ben Perry, who has been helping to organise the initiative, said: “At this time of year there tend to be more crimes where people have left windows, doors or their sheds open or unlocked.”

“The idea is that these patrols will raise awareness and make residents think twice about security, so allowing would-be thieves like Harry an easy time.”

“If Harry noticed the insecurities, so would a real opportunist thief.”

The campaign will run until this Sunday (17th August) and will include the Barlborough, Clowne, Creswell and Whitwell areas.
