GAINSBOROUGH’S Clinton Cards is not among 19 stores which will close this month after the company went into administration.
But administrators Zolfo Cooper said further closures could not be ruled out.
“Further store closures across the remaining Birthdays estate and certain Clinton Cards traded stores are expected in the forthcoming weeks, although this remains subject to a number of ongoing discussions with landlords and interested parties,” said a spokesman.
Zolfo Cooper has said it would close 350 of the chain’s 784 UK stores.
The entire Birthdays chain will close, in a move that will see the brand leave the high street, as well as about 200 Clinton Cards stores, which together employ about 2,800 full and part-time staff.
A spokesman said the business is burdened with an ‘untenable retail estate’.
