Checking up on tax cheats

TAX cheats in Lincolnshire will be under increased scrutiny thanks to a new detection initiative from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

The Managing Deliberate Defaulters (MDD) programme will target known evaders advising them their tax affairs are being watched.

“If you are thinking about breaking the rules just remember, you could end up with HMRC on your back for five years,” said Steve Hickman from HMRC.

Methods of surveillance could include cross checking accounts, unannounced inspection of books and requests for documentation.
