SAFE@LAST celebrated its dedicated volunteers at a special event recently.

The Because you’re worth event, held during volunteers week, was the perfect way to thank those who give up their free time for the children’s charity.

And as part of the celebrations Safe@Last crowned its Volunteer of the Year. This year the award was shared between Rachel Campbell, and Nicola Storey.

Rachel started supporting Safe@Last after meeting a staff member promoting an event a couple of years ago - and she hasn’t looked back.

Rachel lives and breathes Safe@Last and does a variety of roles including manning the helpline, acting as an ambassador, helping at events and schools work, supporting the prevention and education project and most recently is working on the fundraising event Divalicious.

Nicola works for John Lewis in Sheffield and took up a secondment with the charity last year. But she was so taken with the work of Safe@Last and how she could help that she started volunteering with the charity before she even had confirmation about her placement.

Nicola did volunteer ambassador training and was soon so proficient that she took on the responsibility for training new volunteer ambassadors and continues to do this. She also does regular duties on the young person’s helpline.

Safe@Last operations director Mark Smith said: “Both Rachel and Nicola are excellent ambassadors for Safe@Last.”

“Their enthusiasm, passion and determination to raise funds and awareness for the charity are superb – from taking part in The BIG Sleepout, to answering helpline calls, they have both thrown themselves whole heartedly into volunteering and have also supported and inspired their volunteer peers as well as helped to encourage new volunteers to come on board.”

Rachel and Nicola were presented with their awards by Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham Coun John Foden and Kathleen Foden.
