Captain’s Column: Paddling in the Trent anyone?

GAINSBOROUGH’s petrol pumps weren’t the only thing to run dry this week.

My beloved river (the Trent) has finally taken a hit after months and months of little rainfall.

I snapped this shot while down river at Laneham at the weekend.

A handful of bystanders looked on aghast on Saturday as the boat ran a ground.

The tide lifted her briefly but my spies tell me the poor girl’s been there a week now.

Having mocked the so called drought I now fear for my own vessel as the Trent’s levels around Gainsborough are noticeably lower. Surely something can be down to keep the Trent flowing freely?

Right now I would vote for any politician who could guarantee I’m not about to keel over.
