Town has say on transport issue

CONCERNED residents from in and around Gainsborough came together over the weekend to have their say on the future of public transport in the area.
The Gainsborough and District Rail and Bus Users Group (GRaB) represents the views of commuters to rail and bus operators and local authorities. It aims to put pressure on the Government to improve public transport in the Gainsborough area.
On Saturday the group held a special meeting at Trinity Arts Centre where residents could have their say and ask important questions.
And on Sunday, GRaB welcomed a customer services manager for East Midlands Trains to Lea Road train station to sign up volunteers to help make the station a more attractive gateway to our town.
GRaB chairman Barry Coward said that there was a great turnout at the events and some very important issues were raised.
“After discussion, calls for better time keeping by Northern Rail on the service to Sheffield will now be taken to a meeting with the train operator by GRaB’s secretary and treasurer,” he said.
“GRaB are to conduct a survey of residents and employees to establish the level of demand for more trains to serve Gainsborough Central.”
He continued: “Calls were made for more buses from Lea and Sansfield Lane area to the town centre and John Coupland Hospital and for a bus service to be introduced to The Avenue area of town.”
GRaB plans to hold a meeting in Misterton to coincide with Nottinghamshire’s review of bus services in Bassetlaw.
