A FASHION hotspot in Gainsborough’s town centre has been nominated for a top business award.

Barren Bou, on Lord Street, is the second to be shortlisted in the Best Customer Service category sponsored by the Gainsborough Standard at this year’s Gainsborough Business Awards.

The ladies’ clothes retailer is renowned by shoppers for its relaxed and engaging atmosphere - something that they say that only they can offer an independent business.

“It feels very strange and scary to be nominated,” said manager Dawn Barren. “I’m just a normal person running a shop really.”

“We’re very proud of the customer service we offer here - that’s what business is about. We like to make people feel comfortable by going that extra mile.”

She continued: “All we do is make them feel good about themselves when they are trying on clothes by talking to them. They come in here and they don’t just shop - they get an experience.”

Dawn said that great customer service is at the heart of all that they do at Barren Bou - which really makes them stand out.

“It’s so important to us,” she said. “A lot of my customers just come in for a chat and to make sure everyone is alright and have a cup of tea.”

“We different to other places. We don’t do what’s on the high street and that’s part of why people like to come here. They come here for something unique and to feel welcome.”

Dawn added: “Everyone is an individual and in here you get treated as on. We have some quirky stuff here that you won’t find anywhere else in Gainsborough.”

“I’d just like to thank everyone for their support and this nomination. It means a lot because it’s something that doesn’t happen every day and you don’t expect things like this. I’m just trying to earn a living.”

Dawn and the store were nominated by Elizabeth Childe, who also works in the shop and has been touched by Dawn’s approach to dealing with people.

“At Barren Bou, you get a professional service but it’s not formal,” she said. “The atmosphere is so relaxed.”

“Dawn is a very special lady. She’s not just my boss, she’s great to work for and a brilliant mentor.”

Elizabeth continued: “I’ve never worked in this sort of thing before, so I was looking for a part-time job and I’ve loved it, and now I’m hopefully going to grow the business with Dawn.”

“You come here and you get such a happy experience and it’s one that you’ll definitely remember!”

She added: “The customers that come in always come back because we try to make people feel at home. We’re not a normal shop and we’re very personal.”

“People come here for a quick 10 minutes and ending staying for about an hour because we might have a little fashion show - it’s such a fun place to be.”

The Gainsborough Business Awards 2011 will be a black tie dinner at the White Heather at Caenby Corner, near Gainsborough.

The event will take place on Thursday 15th September at 7pm.
