Through The Keyhole is a new feature where the Standard will be focusing on some of the more interesting houses on the market in the area.

This month, we went along to Fern Cottage on Summer Hill - a five-bedroom property which boasts some of the best views in town.

Covering a quarter acre and priced at £449,950, the house has a living room, sitting room, a sun dining room, living kitchen, utility room, double garage, electric gates, three en-suite bedrooms, a potential building plot and a balcony from where you can see miles around over rooftops and Trent Valley.

“It’s a wonderful place to live,” says current resident Christine Ranshaw.

“The views are absolutely breath-taking and certainly unique. We’ve done a lot of entertaining and been barbequeing at the weekend and this house lends itself to it.”

“We’ve even had people who design houses come here and take ideas away with them. It’s wonderful to live in a property that’s unique to Gainsborough and we’ve really enjoyed it, but we just want to downsize now the family has moved out.”

She continued: “My daughter and grandson used to live with us and he used to love all of the space. He had his friends around a lot to play on Playstation in the rooms and practically had his own personal football pitch.”

She added: “Basically, you have the beauty and relaxation of living in the countryside but with the convenience of being so close to town and Marshall’s Yard.”

Her husband Dennis added: “It’s a brilliant place to live.”

“It’s in the ideal spot where you can just walk a few minutes to town but it’s great especially for the fantastic views and all of the family space. It’s 100 per cent perfect for families.”

Angela Longstaff from Gainsborough Estates said: “You’ll not find another house like this in Gainsborough. I’ve been doing this job for 25 years and this is one of the nicest I’ve seen in Gainsborough.”

It’s a beautiful house and the views are stunning. You can see for miles over the Trent Valley. You have to be here viewing it to really appreciate it.”

She continued: “There are beautiful large surrounding gardens and lovely annexe bedroom so it’s a great all-round family home – but the views just top it off.”

“It would certainly make the ironing less mundane if you could do it from that gorgeous balcony. Just sitting here now, you can hear the birds singing, you have a beautiful view and you can hardly believe we’re in Gainsborough!”
