A funding boost to the tune of £1.53 million will help to develop rural areas including the Isle of Axholme, across North Lincolnshire.

Northern Lincolnshire Local Action Group has been awarded the cash for the LEADER funding programme.

This is part of the Rural Development Programme for England. A Local Action Group (LAG) is a partnership that was formed to deliver the LEADER programme and is responsible for managing this funding.

LAG is made up of private, public and voluntary community representatives across Northern Lincolnshire who all work together to fund projects.

Six main priorities for rural North Lincolnshire include:

1. Support for increasing farm productivity

2. Support for micro and small enterprises and farm diversification

3. Support for rural tourism

4. Provision of rural services

5. Support for cultural and heritage

6. Increasing forestry

The new round of funding will run from summer 2015 until end of March 2020.

More details about the new LEADER programme will be provided soon, including how you can apply for the funding.

Coun Liz Redfern, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council said: “I am delighted that the LEADER programme has been awarded further funding to provide a new programme across Northern Lincolnshire. It is important that our rural areas aren’t forgotten about as they are a vital part of our economy and communities.

“The last round of LEADER funding from 2008 to 2013 made a huge difference to our rural communities through helping deliver 88 projects and creating five new jobs. It was awarded £2.5m, which was match-funded to create over £4.2m in funding. I am positive this new round of funding will be just as successful at helping rural communities.”

The 2008 to 2013 LEADER funding programme was delivered following three main priorities. These were:

Basic services for the economy and rural population

Village renewal and development

Conservation and upgrading of the rural heritage
