Charnwood Hotel, at Blyth

THE Charnwood Hotel near Blyth has been bought out of administration as part of a multi-million pound deal.

Convivial Hotels Ltd took over the 45 room hotel along with another in Wales which have both been in administration.

The Charnwood Hotel is now undergoing a substantial refurbishment programme which will see public facilities, restaurants and rooms upgraded.

The hotels will be operated as Convivial Hotels Ltd and the new company will be based alongside other businesses associated with the licensed trade at the group’s Bolton headquarters.

Work has already begun at The Charnwood and an experienced manager has also been appointed to develop the hotel’s conference and booming wedding business.

The hotel’s new general manager Mark Tulett began his working career as a chef at the Cafe Royal in London before working in hospitality in America and on his return opened the refurbished Crown Plaza Midland Hotel in Manchester. He has also owned his own hotel and nightclub as well as working for the Royal Yacht Club where guests included Royalty, VIPs and heads of state.

The move into hotels marks a new departure for the Convivial group which has worked closely with Santander Bank over several months finalising the complex deal.

The company has successfully managed a number of hotels but saw the opportunity to add to its business portfolio.

Convivial group managing director Jeremy Jones, said: “We have experience of managing hotels in administration for insolvency practitioners and banks for several years.”

“Now we are looking forward to developing Charnwood Hotel into a luxury destination suitable for tourists, business people and for those looking for the perfect wedding venue.”

“With immediate effect we have introduced a substantial investment plan for the hotel aimed at refurbishing the public areas, rooms, conference and wedding facilities to bring them to a high standard.”

Mr Jones owns several companies, the largest being Convivial Management Solutions, which operates 45 licensed premises, including pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels, around the country, on behalf of insolvency practitioners and banks.

The Charnwood was recently nominated by Best Western as one of the top three 40 to 60 bedroom hotels across Britain.
