A NEW B and Q DIY store is to open in Gainsborough on the site previously owned by Focus - saving the jobs of the 15 employees at the Lea Road branch.
The safety of jobs at the store were thrown into doubt when Focus DIY went into administration, but now B and Q, have said that it aims to bring investment to the local community, however the store will not be recruiting and new staff at this time.
The move will mean that all 15 jobs at the store will be safeguarded by B and Q, and stores will be transferred to the B and Q format as soon as possible, with some set to open under the B and Q banner as soon as next month.
B and Q CEO for UK and Ireland Martyn Phillips said: “We are delighted that the OFT has acted swiftly meaning we will be able to bring new investment to Gainsborough and safeguard more than 600 jobs nationally.”
He added: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Focus employees to B and Q and to becoming a part of local communities that we haven’t previously operated in.”
B and Q’s parent company Kingfisher announced on 6th May that following the appointment of administrators at Focus, it had agreed to buy up to 31 leasehold properties for £23 million in cash.
