All major roads in Worksop town centre were closed this evening after a female is believed to have been knocked down by a car - with speculation on social media suggesting it was a police vehicle.

The incident happened at about 5pm at the junction of Watson Road and Newcastle Street, near the new bus station.

Roads were cordoned off and police officers were in attendance at the scene.

The incident forced motorists to turn around and take routes back away from the town centre during rush hour. Bus services were also affected.

At this stage it is not known how old the female is or the injuries sustained.

Nottinghamshire Police are yet to release any official information but have been contacted by the Guardian.
