Bowls Club

The Club’s Gainsborough Standard Bowls League team started the season well with victories over Marton in two friendly matches. On 23rd April at Marton’s green, they won four of the five rinks and in the return game at home the following night, they were victorious on all five rinks. This was a good pre-league workout with some good bowling from both teams in cold conditions on a good surface. On Sunday 27th April, Beckingham’s Robert West, John Foster and Roger Platts played for The Rest against 2013 Champions Scotter 1, giving a good account of themselves with several “seesaw” ends before going down by six shots on their rink. Scotter won this annual match on aggregate by 22 points. Invitations for Beckingham’s Anniversary Triples on Sunday 15th June and Open Pairs on Sunday 20th July have been sent to all clubs, and total prize money for both events will be £300. Enquiries should be made to Clive Hunter on 01427 848756 for the Triples and to Roger Platts on 01427 848559 for the Pairs. There have been four league fixtures earlier this week against Melrose and Misterton in the GSBL, and Belton and Marshall B in the Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ Leagues, whilst Club Nights continue on Thursdays with new members welcome.
