AN INNOVATIVE project in Beckingham has seen unemployed young men from the area have being given the opportunity to gain skills and work experience.

Courtesy of the government-funded Future Jobs Fund, eight people aged 19-24 are spending six months working alongside experienced construction workers on a major heritage refurbishment on The Old Willow Works in Beckingham to fully restore it to create a community heritage centre. All of the young people have been unemployed for at least six months.

The building will host an exhibition about the willow industry and will also offer office space, meeting rooms and function rooms with full welfare facilities.
