At their meeting on Monday 17th February, members and visitors welcomed Rob Potterton from Potterton and Martin Nursery at Caistor. Rob specialises in the cultivation of alpine plants and gave a very interesting talk titled Mountains to Market on a journey he made with a specialist team to collect samples and seeds of alpine plants growing wild in the mountains of China.
Rob explained how carefully the plants had to be packed for their trip back to the UK, where they were put into quarantine prior to their release for propagation by alpine specialists. Many of the plants can be seen and bought in Rob’s nursery in Caistor. Following the demonstration, Rob answered many questions from those present. Future speaker events at Beckingham Gardeners’ Club include: 17th March, Don Whitton speaking about Euphorbia; 28th April, Wayne Cook with a talk entitled In the Eyes of Driftwood. All meetings are held at 7pm in Beckingham Recreation Room. Guests and prospective new members from Beckingham and local villages will be made very welcome. For any further information please contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or Rex Madin on 01427 848483.
