Bassetlaw: Mann down! Bassetlaw MP back on safe ground after completing charity volcano climb

From May 25th to 10th June, the Bassetlaw MP climbed the equatorial summits of Iliniza Norte, Cayambe and Cotopaxi in Ecuador- which boasts a height of 19,347 feet.

He will be accompanied by injured soldiers and two other MPs in a bid to raise £10,000 for the Battle Back centre, a military initiative which helps to rehabilitate armed forces personnel both physically and psychologically after they have suffered an injury or illness.

Mr Mann said: “It was an honour to be part of the first ever British Legion Battle Back centre expedition.”

“Many people in the group struggled with the altitude, and we had to tackle a number of routes with crampons and ice axes.”

“After days of climbing equatorial summits, I have a renewed appreciation for the difficulties men and women face when they return from combat.”

“Private Paul Hunter of the Mercian Regiment, for example, was on the expedition having been blown up in Afghanistan and losing most of his legs.”

“It is so important that people like Private Hunter are treated properly after their injuries.”

“That is what our expedition was all about.”

“I am pleased that we have already raised thousands of pounds to help rehabilitate soldiers and veterans, and I will be doing further work to promote the Battle Back centre and the British Legion in the future,” he added.
