Phil Leggetter, 27, a former Ropery Road resident and whose family still live on the street, set up the Bring Back Beckham Website last week in an attempt to get the Real Madrid superstar back into the squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
Mr Leggetter, who now works as a web developer in Edinburgh for Big Mouth Media, became disillusioned with the new England set-up under Steve McLaren following recent poor performances against FYR Macedonia and Croatia.
And he is hopeful the website will generate enough public support for his campaign to get "Goldenballs" back into the new England regime.
"Becks has merely been made a scapegoat by McLaren for England's misgivings at the World Cup", said Mr Leggetter.
"To say that he isn't even worth a place in the squad is laughable as his quality of deliveries alone is enough for him to stake a claim.
"I understand people's questions surrounding him and I too would have played Aaron Lennon at the World Cup in some of the games, as I think Sven was wrong.
"But for him to be ousted completely is also a poor decision and it is just McLaren wanting to appear as his own man.
"I am hoping that we can get around a million people to register their support for Beck's recall.
The Sun newspaper published details of Mr Leggetter's website last Friday, after being inundated with calls for Beckham's return to the squad.
And he also voiced his views on the sports radio station Talksport last week, where he chatted in depth to pundits about his campaign.
The Bring Back Beckham website has received more than..... hits in just eight days.
And 1,060 people have so far registered their support on the site to bring back Beckham.
Mr Leggetter, who supports Scottish side Raith Rovers, added: "The response I have had so far has been phenomenal to say the least. It has only been running a few days and I never thought it would get this much support.
"Hopefully people will continue to give its backing and it might sway opinion to get Becks back in the squad."
