AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl helped save her mum's life after she remembered a lesson she learned in a fire safety class at the Lea Frances Olive Anderson C of E Primary School.
Back in September, Justyna Zalewska was asleep in bed when a light from the bathroom woke her up and she went to see what was happening.
”I went into the bathroom and I saw my mum lying on the floor. It was a bit scary but I went downstairs and go
t a piece of paper that I had been given in a class at school,” she said.
”It explained what you should do in an emergency so I gave it to my dad and he was able to call 999 for an ambulance. They came quickly and took my mum to hospital.”
”I remembered from a lesson from a lady from the fire service who came in to talk to us about emergencies and how to save lives.”
Justyna’s mum Joanna, 40, had suffered from a brain haemorrhage and her dad Piotr was in such shock when he found her that he didn’t know what to do.
Piotr, 39, who works as a lunchtime supervisor at Trent Valley Academy, explained that he just couldn’t remember the number to dial.
”Justyna was amazing. She stayed calm and she did very well. I am very proud of her.” he said.
”I would like to add my thanks to everyone who has supported me and my family at this time.”
Year 3 teaching assistant Nina Salt praised Justyna as a ‘model student’ at the school, saying: ”She is a brilliant student. She just wants to learn everything and take everything in.”
Joanna, who works as a vet, is now in Lincoln County Hospital where she is making good progress.
