PROBUS CLUB - At their weekly meeting the morning’s speaker Girija Logandran, with the aid of a video projection, explained about the aspects and customs of the Hindu religion, and also presented a sample of Indian spicy food. She explained about the different figures and pratices associated with that religion, and members found her talk very intriguing and enlightening. Before the close the chairman announced that member Cliff Webb would present a video entitled Great Wonders of the World at the next meeting.

LUNCHEON CLUB - Pet behaviourist Christine Woodall was the speaker for the penultimate meeting of the season of Gainsborough and District Ladies Luncheon Club held at the Weston Rooms, on Thursday April 10. Christine’s involvement with animals started at a very early age when she joined a dog training class at the age of 10 and achieved first prize by the time she reached 12. Her interest in the behaviour of animals eventually led Christine to study social psychology in humans. All the tests used in the experiments were conducted on animals and the principles apply to both humans and animals. The main aim of Christine’s business is to combine teaching people how to understand their pets with helping them to promote good behaviour. She is now the proud owner of some Shetland ponies and in order to use them to their full potential she has taken up carriage driving, a sport that she had always imagined as a very civilised and sedate sport. Another recent sideline is the publication of a book called Horses Tales. The next meeting of the club, on May 8, at the Weston Rooms, is the last of the season and will be preceeded by the annual general meeting at 11.30am.
