THIS week we go back to the 1950s or early 1960s with this view of The Southolme.
The cameraman is standing in Trinity Street looking north and shows what was then the Southolme junction with Heaton Street going off to the left and Beaumont Street continuing on from Trinity Street going northwards.
The island in the centre of the photo consisted of underground public toilets. The old horse trough can be seen just to the right of the toilets.
There appear to be a number of bicycles leant against the toilets.
On the centre right of the photo is the old Marshalls works (now Tesco’s) with some cyclists riding past.
