Those Were The Days - Rowing on the River Trent

Rowers on the River Trent
Rowers on the River Trent

THIS week’s photo is of a group of rowers on the River Trent, taken probably in the 1960s or 1970s, but we can’t be sure.

All we know is that the the gentleman second from the left is Bill Pettit.

They could be part of the Gainsborough Rowing Club which were a thriving concern a number of years ago and had their headquarters beside the river on Caskgate Street.

There have been moves to revive the club, operating from a site adjacent to the Roses sports ground, but progress seems slow and there is no recent news on what’s happening.

Bring your old photos of Gainsborough into The Standard office in the Market Place.
