THIS week we feature a picture looking up Spring Gardens taken in the early part of last century.
The photographer would have been standing near the Beaumont Street-North Street-Market Street crossroads and the view is looking east up to the Central railway station. Some goods wagons can be seem perched on the embankment. Also in the distance is a horse and cart.
To the left is a shop under the name of R. H. Emmitt. In later years this was Miller’s toy shop. Today, this is an office complex which includes estate agents.
To the right you can just see some of the buildings of the Horse and Groom pub, demolished a few years ago to make way for the Marshall’s Yard complex.
