28th September, 1962: DENABY HAD NO ANSWER TO TRINITY PLAN
THE will to win and a constructive plan. Those were the ingredients used by Gainsborough Trinity at Denaby on Saturday when they got the chance of a tie at Worksop in the third preliminary round of the FA Cup.
Few supporters gave the Trinity a chance of even forcing a replay with Denaby in this second qualifying round game after the Yorkshire side had beaten Trinity 8-1 at Gainsborough only 10 days earlier in a Midland League game.
But after manager Gladstone Guest had ordered wing halves Mike Smith and Terry Buckthorpe to keep upfield to stop the Denaby half backs from coming forward it was Trinity who were 2-1 victors.
