10th August, 1962: GROUP DWELLINGS FOR THE ELDERLY

ELDERLY people have not been forgotten by Gainsborough Urban Council in their plans for the development of their uphill housing estate in the Middlefield Lane area and out of more than 300 dwellings proposed some 38 are intended as old people’s flats.

At their monthly meeting the council approved a recommendation by the Housing Committee to provide additional communal facilities in connection with the old people’s dwellings as suggested by the council’s architects who had held discussions with the County Welfare Officer on the scheme for incorporating old people’s flats in a group of specially designed buildings with communal welfare facilities and supervision by a resident part-time warden.
