27th July, 1962: 132 PEOPLE SIGN PETITION

THE women of Lea Road, Gainsborough, are up in arms against a proposal of Lindsey County Council, backed by Gainsborough Urban Council and the police authority, to raise the speed limit on 30ft wide Lea Road - main Gainsborough to Lincoln thoroughfare - to 40 miles an hour, starting at the railway bridge.

One of the organisers of the protest, Mrs C. R. Brown, mother of a daughter of 12, who is also a motorist, on Wednesday handed to Mr Wm. McIntyre, Clerk to Gainsborough UDC, a petition signed by 132 persons who live on that stretch of Lea Road from the railway bridge to the town boundary where the limit ends.

Mrs Brown has been assisted with the petition by mother of two Mrs A. Hewitt.
