20th July, 1962: CRISIS IN THE SOCCER LEAGUE
GAINSBOROUGH and District Football League are facing a crisis. At their annual meeting on Thursday (week) held at the Plough Inn, Gainsborough, resignations from four first division clubs, with another likely from a second division side, were received.
From the first division out go Newells Social, one of the oldest clubs in the league, Everton, Limestone Rangers and Tuxford. Everton and Limestone Rangers (Willoughton) now face extinction as both villages are having the utmost difficulties to raise a side worthy of the Gainsborough League.
Last season Limestone Rangers had to withdraw their reserve side from division three, but now Willoughton will be without a football team altogether.
