27th April, 1962: OPENING OF NEW TOWN SUPERMARKET

GAINSBOROUGH’S first sparkling new supermarket, Fine Fare at 9-11 Market Place - the site of the Bomer store, Waterloo House - opens next Tuesday morning.

Then hundreds of eager shoppers will crowd into the store to take advantage of the hundreds of price reductions available during the week.

The actual opening ceremony will be performed by Sam, the loveable, amusing Baby Brooke Bond Chimp, who should prove a popular little ‘personality’ at the opening.

The new supermarket is a valuable addition to the shopping facilities of the town and its 5,000 items on display will do much to brighten the menus of many local families.
